My OptiFine is too old for Optimum Realism — what version do I need
Rendering bugs on OptiFine — missing connected textures, vanilla-looking mobs, flat blocks — usually mean OptiFine is out of date. Install the latest OptiFine preview for your Minecraft version, or switch to Iris + Sodium for the recommended setup.
OptiFine ships "stable" builds and newer "preview" (HD U) builds. The pack uses recent CTM, CEM and emissive features, so an older stable build renders it wrong — you'll see the "ENABLE CONNECTED TEXTURES" hint, vanilla-looking mobs, or no depth.
Fix:
- On the official OptiFine downloads page, grab the latest preview for your exact Minecraft version.
- Run the installer, then launch the new OptiFine profile.
- Turn on Video Settings → Quality → Connected Textures → Fancy and Custom Entity Models → On.
Better option: most users get more FPS and fewer rendering quirks on Iris + Sodium with the Continuity, EMF and ETF mods — the setup the pack is tuned for.
