Does Optimum Realism RTX work on Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch

No — Bedrock RTX ray tracing is Windows 10/11 PC only, with an NVIDIA RTX or AMD RDNA2 GPU. Consoles and Switch still get the higher-resolution Optimum Realism textures, just without the ray-traced lighting.

This one matters before you buy, so here's the honest answer: Bedrock's ray tracing is locked to Minecraft for Windows on a capable PC. It does not run on consoles or Switch.

Where RTX ray tracing works:

  • Windows 10/11 PC only, with an NVIDIA RTX 20-series or newer, or an AMD RDNA2 card (RX 6000-series and up).

Where it does NOT work:

  • Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One — even though Series X has ray-tracing hardware, Minecraft doesn't expose a playable RTX mode on it.
  • PlayStation 5 and PS4 — same story; no Minecraft RTX mode on console.
  • Nintendo Switch — no.
  • Phones and tablets — no RTX ray tracing.

So what DO consoles get? The pack still installs and works as a high-resolution PBR texture pack — sharper, more detailed blocks than vanilla. You just don't get the ray-traced reflections and shadows that need RTX hardware.

The no-RTX path for better lighting: Bedrock now has a built-in Vibrant Visuals mode that adds PBR lighting, reflections and shadows without an RTX GPU, on a much wider range of hardware. See whether that's your route.

Make sure you're buying for the right platform — if you're on PC but on the wrong edition, here's sorting Java vs Bedrock. Mojang has also wound down active RTX development in favour of Vibrant Visuals, so the no-RTX path is where Bedrock visuals are heading.
